Do you find that most of you income seems to be spent at the supermarket? I don’t have one yet but I am sure it is even worse if you have a growing family to feed. Well I have done some research and I have found some handy tips on how to save money on your weekly food shop. Have you ever considered doing a recipe plan before you do your food shop? This is something that I learnt from my Mum and it really helps to cut down on waste. You go to the supermarket and buy what you need and not just what you fancy at the time.
Secondly, why not make a list? This may seem like one of the most obvious things to do but trust me it really works. This way you won’t be as tempted by the extra little treats and it also helps to remember the little things like replacing your salt stash that wouldn’t normally feature in your weekly shop. Another great little tip that I learnt the hard way is not to shop on an empty stomach. Everything becomes a lot more appealing and you start to buy anything that looks good, rather than just the bits that you need.
Why not try shopping online? This is one of the best ways to stick to your list and not be tempted by the “special offers” on the ends of the aisles! Trust me these are strategically placed to catch your eye and convince you that you do need to try the latest chocolate biscuit with extra chocolate. And if you’re really good then you could use to compare the four major supermarkets and then shop at the cheapest one.
I have started using my own advise and not only has this dramatically reduced my food bill but it has also cut down the amount I snack on and the amount of food I waste. One final tip is to make sure that you don’t just pop into the supermarket for one thing. We all know that you will be leaving with a lot more than the pint of milk you went in for!
